| Montegonzi
sprung up around a fortified castle dating back to the Twelfth
century. The dominant position of the castle made it strategically
important for controlling communication between Florence and Siena.
In 1629 the castle was partially destroyed by the Ghibellini family
of Siena who were warring the Guelfi family of Florence. In the
restoration of the castle care was taken to recreate, where possible,
the ancient style using only the original stonework. The pavements
are partially original and the external features have been designed
to reproduce the features as closely as possible. Today it is
simply a peaceful haven. Set high above the town of Greve in Chianti
it enjoys the most amazing vistas, truly romantic. A beautiful
swimming pool is set inside the equipped garden. The internals
of the 8 restored apartments are colourfully and comfortably furnished
and good quality modern fixtures make them efficient units. A
small reception room has a telephone, e-mail and fax where guests
can receive calls. Greve is approximately a fifteen-minute drive
with a multitude of shops selling a range of handicrafts, food
and some of the best wines in Tuscany. Panzano in Chianti is a
ten minute drive downhill and has some delightful restaurants
and bars. This is surely the most picturesque part of the Chianti
Classico, midway between Florence and Siena and each within a
one-hour drive.

Montegonzi
nasce attorno ad un Castello fortificato, gia' esistente
nell'anno 1100, che per la posizione dominante aveva importanza
strategica sulla via di comunicazione tra Firenze e Siena.
Nel 1629 il castello venne parzialmente distrutto dai
Ghibellini senesi in guerra con i Guelfi fiorentini. Nel
corso del restauro si e' fatta particolare attenzione
nel ricreare, per quanto possibile, la tipologia originale
usando le pietre ivi esistenti. La pavimentazione è infatti
parzialmente originale come la struttura esterna. Oggi
è comunque semplicemente un paradiso. Situato in alto,
sopra la cittadina di Greve in Chianti gode sicuramente
la vista più incantevole e romantica, visibile soprattutto
dalla terrazza dove è inserita una bella piscina attrezzata
. Gli interni degli 8 appartamenti sono colorati e arredati
confortevolmente in modo da rendere le unità efficienti.
Una piccola reception a disposizione dei clienti è dotata
di telefono, e-mail e fax. Greve è a ca. 15 minuti d’auto
con una moltitudine di negozi di artigianato locale, prodotti
tipici e una selezione dei migliori vini toscani. Panzano
è a ca. 10 minuti d’auto con alcuni ricercati e tipici
ristoranti e trattorie locali. Questa è sicuramente la
parte più caratteristica del Chianti Classico, a metà
strada tra Firenze e Siena, entrambe a ca. un’ora d’auto.
